Manual choke conversion kit SU HS8 carbs Jaguar XJ6

  

This is a kit of parts to convert from the troublesome AED unit to a manual choke for Jaguar XJ6 cars. Fits late series 1, early series 2, that is the cars fitted with HS8 2 carburetters.

The carburetters and manifold are not included in the sale, this listing is for the kit only, to enhance your existing setup. Please study the 4th photo.

If your carbs do not look like the ones in this photo, then this kit is not for you. Note the first three photos show the contents of the kit. The second three photos show the kit fitted to a newly-refurbished pair of carbs.

The kit comprises parts to eliminate the AED unit entirely and instead operate the choke by lowering the jets in the conventional manner. The kit does not give any provision for fast-idle, so it may be necessary to blip the throttle for a couple of minutes during warm-up. However, the mixture enrichment works well, and better still, when the choke is off, it is definitely off.

To install the kit the carburetters will have to be removed from the manifold. Whilst doing this it is recommended that the carbs are rebuilt or serviced.

The parts required for this are not included in the kit. It is also recommended that the heat insulating spacers between the carbs and the manifold are changed. These are included in the kit. Please note there is a very small amount of machining to carry out on the carburetter bodies in order to remove and plug the existing choke mixture tubes. This is not difficult and involves drilling out the tubes and re-tapping the holes 1/4 BSP.

Note that this tap is not included in the kit, nor is the Allen key for the plugs. The choke cable is not included, as it is better that the purchaser sources this, so that it can be positioned in the purchaser's preferred location.
